I'm a fan of learning where songs come from. Like the origin of words, I find it fascinating that some songs we hear today have their roots deep in music history. So, my conversation with Jake Xerxes Fussell was a bit of a nerd fest for me, but Jake played along.
Jake Xerxes Fussell's folks brought him up to learn about and love the history of arts, crafts and music. His first trips down the old time music rabbit hole were with his father, a fellow folklorist who has done some field recordings. Those recordings and the people Jake got to meet sparked his interest in the music - old folk and blues.
His fourth album, "Good and Green Again," has continued his exploration into some older songs. But as on previous albums, Jake does bring a modern twist to the songs.
