Laura Glazer

Host of Hello Pretty City

Laura Glazer grew up believing she could've married Bruce Springsteen...if only she had won the ticket giveaway on the radio to see his concert in Washington, D.C. in 1984.

She was seven.

Despite the loss of Bruce's hand she gained a deep love for listening to the radio. From late-night requests for Rock Me Amadeus in high school to finding the best classic rock stations while traveling across the country after college, she continues the quest for the next "perfect" song through Hello Pretty City on Sundays on WEXT.

Hosting a radio show first occurred to her after she moved to Albany, New York. She met the charismatic host of a classical music radio show who encouraged her to pursue getting her own show on WRPI, the radio station at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. A few months later in September 2003 her show Hello Pretty City began airing for two hours on Tuesday mornings. The following year the Capital Region's newspaper, the Times Union, named Hello Pretty City the "Best College Radio Show."

You can hear the whole story behind the genesis of Hello Pretty City in her recent TEDx talk.

In 2010 she made the jump to WEXT and was named "Best Local Radio DJ" by Metroland in 2013. Tune in Sundays 8-10am and 8-10pm to hear her play indie hits, classic country croons, and new gems from emerging artists near and far. She regularly posts what she's listening to and her weekly playlists on

If she was stranded on an island she'd definitely have these with her:

Yo La Tengo's "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out"

The Innocence Mission's "We Walked In Song"

Assateague's "Good Morning Blues"

Ponies in the Surf's "A Demonstration"

T. Rex's "Cosmic Dancer"

Bon Iver's "For Emma Forever Ago"

And anything from Damien Jurado, Sharon Van Etten, Smithsonian Folkways, Cass McCombs, Real Estate, Jessica Pratt, Emmylou Harris, Father John Misty, Broadcast, Iron and Wine, and Django Reinhardt.

When she's away from the radio microphone she's a graphic designer, artist, and magazine publisher. You can see her work on her website,

Hello Dear Friend,

It's not easy to tell you this, but after 16 years of being on the radio every week, the final Hello Pretty City radio show will be in early November.

It's not WEXT...they are deeply kind and would gladly keep Hello Pretty City on the air.

Rather, it's me.

Here's the PDF of this year's list, the Top 97 of 2016. And here's the PDF of the Top 60 Local 518 of 2016.

We are hoping you'll join us by sending along your selections for the Best of 2016.  Send an email.  The DJ's lists are below.
