Caffe Lena 60 Episode 44 2003

Ember Swift
Artist
Ember Swift

A Canadian singer-songwriter moves to China and a band from upstate New York with an unusual name.

This is episode 44 of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song.  Thank you to Sarah at the Caffe for selecting the artists and songs for the feature.

Ember Swift is a Canadian singer songwriter who began writing songs when she was 9 and performing when she was 10. She fell in love with the culture in China when visiting and moved to Beijing the following year. She continues to split her time between Toronto and Beijing and her new band consists of members who are long-time residents of Beijing.

Upstate, the band formerly known as Upstate Rubdown, consists of four songwriters, three singers, and all instrument-wielding powerhouses. They experiment with everything from folk and jazz to gospel, r&b and rock and roll. They are based in the Hudson Valley and like the Valley, their music is broad with intermingling between different elements.

Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song, a production of WEXT Radio.
