Caffe Lena 60 Episode 8 1967

The Greenbriar Boys
Artist

When the producers of The Monkees passed on it, The Greenbriar Boys were the band to take the first chance on Michael Nesmith's "Different Drum."

This is episode 8 of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song. Thank you to Sarah At the Caffe for her help compiling the list of artists and songs.

They met and jammed in Washington Square Park. The trio often played the Greenwich Village scene. They were listed as guests on two Joan Baez records. The Greenbriar Boys were notable enough to be the first Northern group to win the likes of the Union Grove Fiddlers' Convention competition, where Yellin also took top honors for banjo.

Music discovery is at the heart of Caffe Lena's being.

The band The Mammals honors the past while envisioning a bright future, and good, positive human collaboration. Mike + Ruthy bring a warm, intensity to their music. Ruth Ungar’s remarkably soulful grace and Mike Merenda’s hushed and intimate ease, the performance strikes deep and spark smiles. Nominated for Song of the Year at the International Folk Music Awards, the title track of their 2018 album Sunshiner is a brilliant folk-pop, instant classic.
