The 9th Annual Battenkill Runs Through It River Festival returns on Saturday, May 25 from Noon – 5pm at the Greenwich Town Beach, just north of the village on State Route 29. The community supported, family friendly environmental festival kicks off the summer season on the banks of the Battenkill. Help celebrate the best of the Battenkill, provide open access to the waterfront and offer healthy recreation opportunities for all!
MUSIC: The popular regional band, HEARD headlines the entertainment which begins with a flag raising ceremony and community sing along of America the Beautiful followed by the an old time musical trio of fiddle, mandolin and bass with George Wilson, Alan Epstein & Mitch Throop. Dave Michaels, morning DJ of EXIT 97.7 & 106.1FM returns to emcee the show. Don't miss the opportunity to demonstrate your support of local music!
FOOD: The Battenkill BBQ Plate features Boy Scout Troop 62's tasty chicken coupled with delicious & healthy offerings from area restaurants and local food purveyors. Vegetarian offerings, beverages and desserts will also be available for purchase.
RIVER FUN: One of the largest public parks on the Battenkill, we'll be offering loads of river fun from kayaking, canoeing, fly fishing demonstrations, riparian buffer planting information, a scavenger hunt and the popular Bug Table showing the positive connection between bugs and clean water.
COMMUNITY CITIZEN AWARD: The annual award recognizes a citizen for their positive impact within the watershed. Past recipients include Bliss McIntosh, Community Volunteer; Mike Bodnar, NYS Forest Ranger and Doug Reed, environmental activist & founder of Hudson Basin River Watch.
