Libraries are more than just quiet spaces with books. These days, libraries are the hub of communities, and nowhere is that more apparent than in Schaghticoke, NY. Diver Library director, Nicholas Matulis is also a Local 518 musician. He's been in the WEXT studios before with several projects, including Swamp Baby, one of our favorite Local 518 bands.
This time around, Nick brought in members of his community - some of the kids and teens who attended a songwriting workshop on steroids. With Nick, and other members of the Local 518 music community, they wrote and recorded songs for a new album called "Let's Make A Song!"
"For 8 weeks during the summer of 2018, rockers of all ages gathered at the Diver Library in Schaghticoke to write original music—to make songs. Some of these songs were silly, some thoughtful, some beautiful, and at least one was very scary! On August 15th the library closed its doors to the public, and with the help of some 518 friends, was transformed into a recording studio. On that day, drums slammed, guitars wept, piano keys sparkled, and kids giggled.
'Let’s Make a Song!' was born."
