On Martin Luther King, Jr Day each year, WEXT fills the airwaves with songs from the earliest recorded blues artists, through gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, funk and more. Included in the playlist are songs that bolstered the Civil Rights movement in the late 50s and into the 60s.
Punctuating the day will be airings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have a Dream” and “I Have Been to the Mountaintop” speeches. Hear the “dream” speech at 12n and 6pm. Following the 6pm airing, hear the “mountaintop” speech. This year, MLK Day is January 19th.
