Swedish indie folk singer José González made his first appearance on Mountain Stage in a 2008 show at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. He masterfully weaves together contemplative lyrics and breezy pop melodies that have drawn comparisons to Nick Drake, John Martyn and Iron & Wine. González is also known for his acoustic cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop," a most familiar in the U.S. as the theme to TV show House M.D.; Gonzalez's version has been used in episodes of House, Friday Night Lights and Numb3ers.
At the time of this Mountain Stageset, González was touring in support of his sophomore release, In Our Nature. Besides playing cuts from that record and some from his 2003 debut, Veneer, González also delivers a delightfully neofolky interpretation of Kylie Minogue's "Hand on Your Heart." This marks the first time a Mountain Stage artist performed a song from the woman who has been called "the Britney Spears from Down Under."
