July 4th is a day we get to celebrate all that is great about America, and in WEXT's case, all that is great about American music. Please join us from 10am to 4pm as we celebrate some of that great music. And note at the bottom of this post that we have a three part special to air at 8pm on July 4, 5 and 6, too.
Starting at 10am, join us for a special behind the scenes look and listen to the incredible 59 track 6-CD compilation called "Day of the Dead." The compilation was spearheaded by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National.
At 12n, dig in deep for a special look at the recording of Janis Joplin's "Pearl" with David Gans guiding us through. (Don't miss Capital Rep's A Night With Janis Joplin, July 8 through August 7).
At 1pm, we head off to the City Winery in New York for a special release day concert with Shawn Colvin & Steve Earle. Their new album "Colvin & Earle" matches these two great songwriting performers on stage the night of their album release (June 10th). Thanks to our friends at Concord Music for this special event.
At 2pm, join us for a special rebroadcast of one of our favorite American Routes programs. Nick Spitzer takes us on a journey through the life and catalogue of one of America's treasured gems - an American icon - Woody Guthrie.
At 7pm, it's a special rebroadcast of the Bluegrass Around the Bend 4th of July show from Sunday night (7/3 at 10pm).
A special visit from Phil Ochs' older sister, Sonny, brought us to a special three-part retrospective of his music and life, too. You can hear this special event on three consecutive evenings - July 4, 5 and 6 at 8pm.
All this great programming is brought to you by listener support. Thank you so much for leaving regular radio behind, and for providing the funding necessary to keep the music flowing. You can make your contribution online, or by phone at 1.800.272.6492. Thanks!
