Caffe Lena 60 Episode 26 1985

Scott McKenzie
Artist
Scott McKenzie

He was almost a papa in San Francisco’s The Mamas and the Papas, and they were a rock band that evolved into a folk trio.

This is episode 26 of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song. Thank you to Sarah at the Caffe for coming up with the list of artists and songs.

Scott McKenzie sang in a high school group with Tim Rose and went on to start The Abstracts and The Journeymen with John Phillips. He was given the opportunity to join The Mamas and The Papas but he turned it down to do his own thing. He found success in recording his own songs as well as writing songs for other musicians.

Rainbow Girls is a collaboration of multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters from California who started out touring as a rock n roll band. They have evolved into a folkier trio of that band that highlights their rich harmonies coupled with ageless songwriting and a bluesy sound.
