Caffe Lena 60 Episode 57 2016

Birds of Chicago
Artist
Birds of Chicago

A husband and wife form a duo and hit the road touring, have a baby and get back out on tour again.  And a songwriter creates an aspirational alternative national anthem.

This is episode 57 of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song. Thank you to Sarah at the Caffe for the list of songs and artists for the feature.

Birds of Chicago is an American folk band led by husband and wife duo JT Nero and Allison Russell. The married in 2013 and had a baby, touring through Russell’s pregnancy. They hit the road again in January of 2014 with their daughter who was only 4 months old, heading to The Netherlands.

Jean Rohe writes one of a kind narrative songs, concerned as much with the internal world as with the external. She is perhaps best known for her much-covered 2012 video single “National Anthem: Arise! Arise!”, an aspirational alternative national anthem performed with choir and brass ensemble.

Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song, a production of WEXT Radio.

This radio station started on July 7, 2007, and has been funded by awesome listeners since then. Thank you!
