Caffe Lena 60 Episode 4 1963

The Beers Family
Artist

From 1958 until Robert Beers' death in an automobile accident in 1972, The Beers Family sang and played together.

This is the fourth episode of Caffe Lena: 60 Years of Song. Each week, we advance one year as we hear significant artists who played the Caffe in the year, followed by a recent discovery. Thank you to Sarah Craig at the Caffe for her help with the compiling of the lists of artists and songs.

The Beers Family was Robert, his wife Evelyne and daughter Martha. They hosted many folk musicians in their farmhouse, and began the Fox Hollow Festival, which was a pioneering festival, and provided a template for the music festivals we see all around us today. The Beers Family played at the White House, and on Pete Seeger's Rainbow Quest. In 1963, The Beers Family strode onto the stage at Caffe Lena.

Recent discovery, the Irish band, HighTime are an accomplished trio from the heart of Connemara on the West Coast of Ireland. Combining Irish music with an intriguing blend of modern folk influences, they produce a rich and unique sound and an electric energy onstage.
