Jordan Taylor Hill is a dynamic percussionist, vocalist, and educator whose music blends African rhythms, soulful melodies, and contemporary influences into an uplifting, cross-cultural experience. Deeply inspired by his travels, Hill has studied traditional drumming, song, and dance in West Africa, immersing himself in the vibrant musical traditions of Guinea and Senegal. These journeys shaped his understanding of rhythm as a language that transcends borders. His explorations also took him to Cuba, where he learned from local masters of Afro-Cuban percussion, enriching his sound with the island’s syncopated grooves and deep spiritual roots.
Jordan recently came to the WEXT studio to share stories from these travels, discuss his creative process, and reflect on how each cultural experience informs his music. Between drum rhythms and conversation, he brought the same infectious energy that lights up his live performances, inviting us all into the universal heartbeat of rhythm.
