iTheatre Saratoga Presents I Saw Hitler
iTheatre Saratoga, the Capital Region’s year-round professional theatre company, continues its tradition of bringing innovative, thought-provoking theatre to local audiences with the world premiere of I Saw Hitler, a new play by Mary Jane Hansen based on the writings of pioneering American journalist Dorothy Thompson.
In 1931, Thompson traveled to Germany to interview Adolf Hitler, publishing her observations and sharply critical assessment of the future dictator. Her candor earned Hitler’s personal ire, and in 1934 she became the first journalist expelled by the Nazi regime. Hansen’s multimedia production explores Thompson’s extraordinary courage, the rise of fascism, and the vital role of a free press.
About the Playwright: Mary Jane Hansen is a playwright, actor, and co-founder and artistic director of iTheatre Saratoga/The Creative Place International. Her extensive writing and adaptation credits include A Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and she holds a master’s degree in Dramatic Arts from Harvard Extension School.
