Listen: Local 518 David Tyo

David Tyo is a Local 518 singer-songwriter, composer, mixing engineer and producer. In addition to mixing and producing bands, he writes music for TV shows including: A&E’s Wahlburgers, E! Network’s Hollywood Medium, MTV’s Catfish, NFL Sports, Spike TV’s Ink Master, FOX’s Gordon Ramsay 24 Hours to Hell and Back, and more. On top of all that, Tyo is the Recording Arts Department Chair at The New School Center for Media in Albany where he teaches college-level Audio Engineering and Music Production.

It was Michael Jackson who inspired Tyo to start singing at the tender age of four. He begged his parents for a guitar and started playing that when he was 10.  However, what happened when he was 11 would change his life forever. "I remember like it was yesterday," Tyo says.  "My sister and I were lying on our bellies on the living room floor and she had her Emerson boom box and she showed me this song, 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.  I was already into music and knew people got together to make music, but I had no idea what in the world I had just listened to.  So I inadvertently and involuntarily decided right at that moment that recording and producing music was going to be my life's work."

In this 518 Session, hear David Tyo talk about his musical background, inspiations and perform three songs for us at WEXT.
