Mona Golub dropped by to talk about the final three nights of Music Haven - Friday nights. And it's not specifically concerts, it's movies!

Friday, August 23, Bollywood Night featuring the cult classic movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (translated: The Brave-Hearted Will Take the Bride), also known by the initials DDLJ, is a 1995 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film written and directed by Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut and produced by his father Yash Chopra. Released on 20 October 1995, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians, who fall in love during a vacation through Europe with their friends.

Ahead of the movie (5-7p) is music by Veena and Devesh Chandra with Lalita Ramnauth and classic summer, Indian and Guyanese food.

Friday, August 30, Reggae Sunset featuring the Bob Marley bio pic "One Love." Bob Marley: One Love is a 2024 American biographical drama musical film based on the life of reggae singer and songwriter Bob Marley, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, from his rise to fame in the mid-1970s up until his death in 1981. The film is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who co-wrote the screenplay with Terence Winter, Frank E. Flowers, and Zach Baylin. It also stars Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley, and James Norton as Chris Blackwell.

Ahead of the movie (5-7p) is music by Meta & the Cornerstones and classic summer and Jamaican food. Hear my interview with Meta Dia at this link.

Friday, September 6 is Paint the Park Pink! A showing of Barbie, the 2023 fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach. Based on the eponymous fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous animated films and specials. Starring Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film follows them on a journey of self-discovery through Barbieland and the real world following an existential crisis. It is also a commentary regarding patriarchy and the effects of feminism. The supporting cast includes America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

Ahead of the movie (5-7p) is pop tunes, photo pop ups, Ken & Barbie look-a-likes, and classic summer and "pink" foods.
